The standard packing version of PTFE packing
are 300mm, 225mm,150 mm,150mm, 100mm, 80mm
and 50 mm in diameter and height 100 mm.
Performance:-
PTFE series of packing display excellent
performance characteristics like
1. Specific surface area is 250 m2/m3
2. Voidage of 95%
3. Three theoretical stages per meter of
packed heights in the normal operating
conditions and four stages at low loads.
4. Large operating range with a high
separation efficiency and high F factor.
5 .Low pressure drop 15 mm H²O per
theoretical stage.
Typical applications:-
1. Corrosive liquid- PTFE is having
excellent chemical resistance to a large no.
of chemicals, is suitable up to 180 ° C.
2. Vacuum distillation – For component which
are thermally unstable and required low temp
and high vacuum i.e. low pressure
drop to reduce degradation
3. Atmospheric operations—where a large
number of theoretical stages are required
i.e. in separation of isomeric compound
4. Energy conservation – with the high face
contact efficiency , packing used to reduce
reflux requirements and increase purity
and production
5. Increase product purity – can be achieved
due to efficient distribution system and can
be achieved due to internally more
equilibrium stages from same size column
